Delphiniums
"Delphinium Elatum"

Delphiniums received their name from the Greek word Delphis, meaning dolphin, the buds being said to resemble a dolphin's snout. In England in Tudor times they were referred to as "larkspur" because the nectar sepal looked somewhat akin to a lark's claw. Cultivation has been since the days of Ancient Egypt. Delphiniums have dark or white small flower centrers known as 'bees'. Some varieties are extremely poisonous.
